Something Blue

All of us know the saying that has become a tradition with most brides on their wedding day,

"Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and a Sixpence in her Shoe."

This phrase dates back to ancient times and symbolizes good luck for the bride.

I'd like to zone in on the "Something Blue" for today's post...

Did you know:
Blue has long been connected to weddings. In ancient Rome brides wore blue to symbolize love, modesty and fidelity. You will see the Virgin Mary dressed in blue in most paintings, symbolizing purity. And until the late 19th century blue was the popular color for wedding gowns, not white.

From a touch of blue in your bouquet to blue soles on your wedding shoes, brides have become very creative in choosing their 'Something Blue' for their wedding day over the years. Check out some great ideas below!

A subtle touch of blue with a simple and dainty hair pin

Your something blue can be found on an accessory such as your clutch

Pinning a delicate blue ribbon or charm on part of your wedding day attire is a simple and common way to withhold the tradition

Many brides incorporate blue into their bouquet whether it is by adding blue rosary beads wrapped around the stem,  infusing  subtle blue flowers(s) into the bouquet or adorning the the wrapped stem with blue crystal pins or bling.

Hiding your something blue underneath your wedding attire is very common, whether it's your garter or your under garments
One of my favs is incorporating your something blue on the sole of your shoes…whether it  is painting the entire bottom of your soles (which can easily be done by a local shoemaker) to having your bridal party and close loved ones sign the bottoms in blue or blinging out the initials of you and your grooms name or the words "I Do" in blue crystals--you can get as creative as possible in a subtle way. It makes for a great photo opp too!

Another one of my favorites!
Having something meaningful, such as a quote or you and your grooms initials and/or date of your nuptials, embroidered into the inside of your gown in blue thread is a beautiful way to display your something blue that will forever withstand the test of time.

For the bride who wants to boast her blue under that big puffy dress!
Lastly but not least, try incorporating a little something blue into your headpiece accessories.

The options are endless when it come to choosing your Something Blue, but at the end of the day there is no right or wrong choice…it's what best suits your taste and style and what has the most meaning dear to your heart.

Sincerely,
FG
